There are other programs you can use to talk to iPods, at least if you have a PC. Such as EphPod, which lets you take music off iPods as well as put it on.

I use WinAmp for that stuff. The problem with Quicktime and iTunes dying is I'm subscribed to a podcast (which no, I cannot live without). And I use the Quicktime plugin for my video creations. >.< Damn Apple.
